Forgotten dreams

Forgotten dreams
By AJ O’Brien.

Within her green eyes
stray images of a home,
forgotten dreams a whisper
as a song of death
cuts her to the bone.

Just a stone shadow
I didn’t want her to die,
but I can’t save a wish
she became an empty place,
there’s nothing left. I really did try.

Whispered dreams have died
beneath the souls of many dead,
a clock lays ticking
and time did end
because of something I never said.

Pay back

Pay back

By AJ O’Brien.

I awake within a box

beneath sacred soil,

my heart hits a beat

blue tunnels fill with blood,

begin to flow and boil.

I claw my way out

and happily arise

within a graveyard dark,

surrounded by the dead

and long forgotten goodbyes.

I hunger for your pain

as I look upon my empty grave,

wish me well lover

for it’s your sweetheart

my hands do crave.

I dance toward your fear

beneath a fractured moon,

lock your doors and windows

my evil little angel.

For I shall be there soon.

Strange encounters

Strange encounters

By AJ O’Brien.

From within a tiny spaceship
appeared a green creature,
he’s come an awful long way
and his name is Hickeybeeper.

He has long bendy arms
with legs far too short,
and on the end of his pointy nose
sits a tiny blue wart.

With three yellow eyes
one on top of the other,
everyone says he looks
just like his brother.

Leaving his spaceship
he decides to go for a walk,
and comes upon a little dog
who can bark, but cannot talk.

“Greetings, I come in peace
you funny looking creature.
What’s your name?
Mine’s Hickeybeeper.”

“Woof woof” replied the dog
and then sat down,
looking up at Hickeybeeper
as his smile turned to a frown.

So, do you live nearby?”
“Woof woof” answered the dog
who seemed rather shy.

Hickeybeeper shook his head
and let out a sigh,
then thought to himself
I’ll give it one more try.

“Take me to your leader”
“Woof woof” said the dog.
“Ok I’ve had enough” cried Hickeybeeper
and along came a frog.

“Hello, down there
do you have a brain in your head?”
“Croak croak” replied the frog.
Hickeybeeper turned and fled.

The dog looked down
and barked at the frog,
the frog looked up and said to the dog
“Guess I’ll go and sit on a log.”

Walking in the dark

By AJ O’Brien.

Once upon a life
within a dark, lonely cell
a man of truth does appear
and asked, which road did I travel,
the one toward Heaven or the one to Hell?

And before him I must knell
for my truth is black as coal.
I took the wrong road
and travelled too far.
Corrupted, I lost my soul.

Come this dawn
so your journey must end,
whispered a man of justice.
Your eyes are empty.
Will you die, holding the hand of a friend?

Pebble Island

Pebble Island

Written by my late sister-in-law.
Deirdre Travers.

I carved myself a country
though jagged rough and sharp,
It was rounded smooth and polished,
by the sound of an ancient harp.

I fashioned it out of solid rock
with veins of marble and gold,
and thought it could stand against the world
until time it self, grew old.

It wasn’t supposed to be very big
I didn’t want an empire,
just a place to be at peace
with more to give, than fear and fire.

To many, my rock was another dying day
just floating upon a sea.
God help them, all they saw was rock,
but it was beautiful to me.

An unlocked door

An unlocked door
By AJ O’Brien.

So silent the thief
as she steals his darkest dream,
hidden within the sounds
of an ancient scream.
So happy is she
unleashing a demon’s nightmare,
such wicked thoughts
no mortal can bear.
Shame upon the maker
of such a black dream,
for his mind is corrupted
as it drinks from an innocent scream.

The Killing machine

The Killing machine
By AJ O’Brien.

Hands imprisoned, ringed with steel
climbing an empty black hall.
Don’t wanna go there
I pull back, stumble and fall.
Careless hands dirty nails
pull me upright, crush my soul,
leading me onward and down
toward my final goal.

Our footfalls cease
empty sounds collide,
beyond this ugly door
gonna take the ultimate ride.
Before me it stands
one hundred miles high,
my crimes are laid bare
am i really about to die?

I hear the audience breathing
I begin to cry.
Don’t deserve to live
but don’t wanna die.
Shiny leather straps
kiss and lock me down,
gonna be the very first.
Don’t wanna wear that crown.

The switch is caressed
against the straps I strain,
Oh dear sweet Jesus
this is way beyond pain.

I’m dancing, dancing
beneath a summer’s rain,
and I promise, promise
I will never kill again.

Animal heaven is where…

Animal heaven is where…
By AJ O’Brien.

Dogs ride little green bicycles
and take kittens for a ride,
where when the sun goes down
lions and deer, sleep side by side.

Where every Friday, foxes gather
along with hamsters and chickens,
upon a cloud of silken white
to discuss the works of Charles Dickens.

Where bats have super eyesight
and giraffes never have sore throats,
grizzly bears wear nose pegs
when dancing with smelly goats.

Where horses race snails
and snakes are never ever mean,
all frogs have a leg on each corner
and cows sing in fields of green.

Where all ants are named Eric
and ducks wear little blue hats,
dolphins sunbathe on the beach
and penguins are super acrobats.

Where tigers drink red wine
and spiders weave webs of gold,
fish swim and are never caught
and polar bears don’t know the word cold.

Animal Heaven is where
when their time has come,
all God’s creatures go
and do nothing, but have fun.

Sweet screams

Sweet screams
By AJ O’Brien

Through tunnels midnight red
sail addictive dreams,
turning into monsters
tearing at the seams.

Breaking up, falling down
no life giving powder,
seeking her God
can’t scream any louder.

Eyes running on empty
so cold the wind blows
seeking her God,
and so it goes.

Shooting up
shot way down
climbing the streets,
In search of Master Brown.

And her God appeared,
so the demon spikes in.
But he is pure, uncut.
A cardinal sin.

Unleashed, the killer attacks,
no prisoners no sorrow.
and for another dead life,
no tomorrow.
