And the sun still shone

And the sun still shone.

I cry for the lonely
and pray for those
that cannot cope.
Wishing dreams
would come true
for those who live in hope.

Holding the hand of sorrow
through darkest days,
listening for words unsaid.
Watching out for each other,
because the blind,
they need to be led.

Fame

Fame
Three Haikus
By AJ O’Brien.

She found Hollywood
Hollywood never found her.
Still waiting tables.

And came her big break.
Goodbye to her loyal friends
she’s a superstar.

Money beyond dreams.
Drugs. She worships opium.
Overdosed. Farewell.

Above and beyond

Above and beyond
By AJ O’Brien.

Struggling for light
my mind high and dry
seeking only solitude
beneath a crowded sky.

Madness, so enticing,
kneeling before a killer’s grave,
can you forgive me Lord
her soul I could not save.

Darkness, a lonely companion
my heart is midnight black,
I can no longer abide
the thought of looking back.

I pierce my heart
with a dagger long,
falling falling
beneath her empty song.

Overload

Overload
By AJ O’Brien.

I know a man with a plan
to kill as many people as he can.
His mind, damaged and erratic,
the gun, fully automatic.

Armed and ready to go
I held him within, screaming no.

I fought him tooth and nail
knowing I must not fail.
But he drinks from the inner me
our lust for a killing spree.

I put the gun to his head
pulled the trigger. And we lay dead.

And the room fell quiet
just another empty riot.
But he was brave,
so many lives he did save.

And they did come

And they did come
By AJ O’Brien.

So empty the shadows
that danced within her eyes,
how sad the children
at the birth of her demise.

Came the lonely
clutching their goodbyes,
dragging hearts of sorrow
beneath cast iron skies.

Came the fools with gold
and so too the wise,
along with her inner demons
wearing a sad disguise.

And so her people wept
until the sun did rise,
and one and all forgave
her unforgivable lies.
