Tormented

Tormented
By AJ O’Brien.

Upturned wrists
beneath a black light,
which to open first
unwrap,
the left or right.

Upon a razor’s edge
as the water grows cold,
deciding to cut and die
or suffer and grow old.

Sharp the pain
steel meets flesh,
as she parts the Red Sea.
Why, I ask
could you not let her be?

Black Hammer

Black Hammer
By AJ O’Brien.

And she stood silent
within a crowd of blue,
until the voices
were dark and distant
and she knew what to do.

And she came upon
a fat and empty clown,
with a gun in his hand
whispering songs of neon,
ready to paint the town.

And she turned to flee
as the black hammer fell,
hearing only
the distant ringing
of her death knell.

And she lay dying
beneath the grin of a clown,
as the black hammer fell
again and again,
until her mind shut down.

And she lay silent
within a coffin blue,
as a fat and empty clown
whispers songs of neon,
not knowing what else to do.

Compassion

Compassion
By AJ O’Brien

Never mock the lonely
bleed for those who have bled,
weep for the war torn
and always pray for the dead.

Cast aside the bigoted
feed the unfed,
plead with the suicidal
and remember the dead.

Abolish the stench of hatred
push the downtrodden ahead,
embrace the right to die
and always pray for the dead.

Never ever look away
reach out instead,
gather up that broken soul
and remember the dead.

As the darkness becomes heavy
and all has been said
forgive me my sins.
I am, one of the dead.

Belongs dark this madness

Belongs dark this madness
By AJ O’Brien

Keep on swinging
she’s corrupted, insane.
Don’t stop now
break down the barriers,
until you kill her pain.

Fight your way on through
a soul lost you’re seeking.
Cleanse those wicked veins
and don’t listen to the words,
it’s only her killer speaking.

Lock the hunger down
barricade the door.
Let her plead
let her scream and beg,
she ain’t getting no more.

Unjust

Unjust
Three Haikus
By AJ O’Brien.

Gallows sightless, black
fear has arrived, hope has fled.
Thirteen steps to climb.

Blind. A hood of silk,
slip knot caressing her neck.
Preparing to bite.

She is innocent,
a matter of self defence.
And the trapdoor fell.

Desperation

Desperation
By AJ O’Brien.

And through darkness
with hope they tread
in search of the demon,
willing to return life
to an innocent, dead.

Silent love wrapped in rags
and the quest did end
upon a crimson hill,
time to meet
an unwanted friend.

Dancing, a shadow white
the beast did appear,
and the air was corrupted
as they both did knell,
two hearts drowning in fear.

Your God has forsaken thou
so you call upon me,
the King of the dead
deaths ancient dancer
beneath the Hanging Tree.

But worry not, cried the demon.
I shall return life to your daughter.
And in return, he sniggered,
One of you
I must slaughter.

A fall from on high

A fall from on high
By AJ O’Brien.

A thousand blazing Suns
from galaxies unknown
erupted from his eyes,
and climbing toward emptiness
whispered their goodbyes.

And the keeper of sorrows
held sadness at bay
as he collected the tears
on that lost and lonely day.

For an Angel of God
a liquid shadow
has fallen from grace,
and banished from Heaven
to reside beneath our mortal race.
