Joanne d’ Arc
By AJ O’Brien.
Dark dreams, black silk
woven from shadows
and born of fire,
soon to be caressed
by the words
of a lonely martyr.
Kneel within the ashes
of a crime gone by,
and in silence pray,
as you listen to
Joanne d’ Arc cry.
I actually had forgotten how skilled you are – that’s what happens when one stays away for too long!

I read, a quietly beautiful tribute to a woman who was victimized by religion. Not literally these days, but aggressive, outgoing women are still being “burned at the stake.”

This was very good, Alan! The story of Joan of Arc has always made me sad, but your poem made it real.

Well done, Alan. Your words conjure a bleak world of ignorance and evil…a pity that we haven’t progressed all that much.

If the human race doesn’t destroy itself first, maybe someday we’ll learn. Fingers crossed.🤞
