Something said

ย

So dark the road
I must tread,
never looking back
for fear of the dead.
Lost and alone
all it took was something said,
now she lays broken
upon a scarlet bed.

My soul is poisoned
this guilt I can not shed,
I stole her life
and so to the hanging tree
I am lead.

  1. Did it happen in Greece or Cyprus. Why “Plato Republic” – What made it into this name. Is there a reason for this title, I have never read that book, I know there is one about what you are trying to define. I hope I will get a response to what you wrote about. Thank you for posting and it was very interesting! Thank you for stopping at my blog and LIKING of one my post! Have a nice Sunday

    1. Hi.
Not quite sure what you mean by
“Did it happen in Greece or Cyprus”
Or your reference to Plato’s Republic.
Oglach asked in his comment on this poem
if I took the title of my new site from Plato’s Republic?
      I replied that I didn’t.

  2. I’ve wondered what triggers one to snap and take a life. Your excellent poem, although dark and unrelenting, doesn’t cast blame at anyone but the murderer. He owns his guilt and accepts his fate. Foreboding but with a surprising sense of hope. Perhaps there’s salvation for his soul, yet.

Bravo, darling Alan. I’m thrilled to be basking in your dark again. ๐Ÿ–คโค๏ธ

  3. I’m glad to be getting the chance to read your earlier poems, which were posted before I started following your blog. This one is so good: so dark, and yet so accessible at the same time. You make us feel the guilt and despair….

    1. Thank you so much Ann.
Your kind words are much appreciated.
Something said is actually a new poem,
but The enemy on X street, my first post on
my new site is an earlier work.
I’m so pleased that you like my new and old stuff. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

    1. Thank you so much Oglach.

Yes, I have more new writing in store.
I have decided though, since it’s a brand new site,
I will also post some of my earlier work for bloggers
that haven’t read anything of mine before.
My first post was an earlier piece.
      Do you think that’s acceptable?

I’m not familiar with the reference you made to
Pluto’s Republic. Excuse my ignorance. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ
      Please enlighten me. โ˜บ๏ธ

      1. I think it’s entirely acceptable for you to publish your earlier works. It’s your site, after all and you don’t want anyone to miss anything.
In Plato’s Republic, there is a story of prisoners in a cave who see shadows cast onto a wall by the flames of a fire. They mistake the shadows for the real world, which in reality is taking place outside the cave. In other words, they are basing their beliefs on illusions. Sound familiar? ๐Ÿ™‚ In any case, it’s a great name for your site. I’m glad you’re back.
